The research focus area Musical Arts in South Africa: Resources and Applications (MASARA) at North-West University (NWU) invites you to a special evening celebrating the richness and creativity of new South African music.
MASARA's annual concert showcases original works by South African composers and performers, exploring diverse sonic expressions.
Concert highlights include the following:
- Catrien Wentink performs new piano miniatures by Austria-based composer Hannes Taljaard
- Janelize Morelli presents a ground-breaking data sonification project from the social sciences
- A moving solo percussion premiere by Jaco Meyer (in memory of composer Wim Henderickx), performed by Magda de Vries
- Chamber music by André Oosthuizen (solo flute), Alexander Johnson (flute and piano, with Tinus Botha), and Hendrik Hofmeyr (with violinist Carli d’Alebout)
- A striking electronic composition by Chris van Rhyn, bringing the Middle East to Africa
