For those who can’t make it to the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, Late Bloomer comes to Gqeberha for one special evening only. Hosted at The One Room, this intimate live performance by bassist and composer Vimbs Mavimbs offers a rare opportunity to witness the unfolding of a deeply personal and musical journey.

About Vimbs Mavimbs:

Thembinkosi Mavimbela, widely known as Vimbs Mavimbs, is a South African double bassist, composer, and musical director whose work moves fluidly across jazz, orchestral, and experimental traditions. Born in Swalala outside Mbombela, his journey began through community music spaces and was later refined through formal training at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he majored in Composition and Performance.

Vimbs has performed and recorded with some of the country’s most celebrated artists, including Dr Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, Msaki, Simphiwe Dana, Feya Faku, Asher Gamedze, McCoy Mrubata, and Nduduzo Makhathini. His work reflects both technical depth and emotional honesty, drawing from African heritage while forging his own expressive language.

About Late Bloomer:

Late Bloomer is both a forthcoming debut album and a sonic meditation on what it means to grow slowly, deliberately, and in your own time. It is a project rooted in 18 years of musical searching , filled with reflection, ancestral influence, and creative resilience.
