What’s in a Poem? Exploring the Potential of Lyrical Language
In this public event, each of us will present one poem from their own culture and country: one by the Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann (1926–73) and one by South African poet Mongane Serote (1944–). Starting from these examples, we will move on to reflections on the question what lyrical language can uniquely achieve – even in contemporary culture that seems mostly indisposed to the patience required for engaging with such language.
