ABOUT

The 9th of August is a public holiday known as 'National Women's Day' in South Africa.

In 1956, 20 000 women came together and marched to the Union Building to petition against the country's pass laws.  The law required individuals defined as "black" under 'The Population Registration Act' to carry an internal passport, known as a 'pass'.  This served to maintain population segregation, control urbanisation and manage migrant labour during the Apartheid era.

In 2017, we use this day to celebrate the strength and power of women.

'Women For Women Summit was conceptulised as a platform that alows women from diverse backgrounds to come togther for a cause larger their indiviidual ambitions, successes and aspirations. Under the theme 'Empowered Women, Empower Women', we want to create an opportunity for women who have achieved success in different areas of their lives to share what tools and tactics have helped this process to materialise.
