Founder Funded: The Regenize x E Squared Story
14 August 2025 | 1:00pm – 2:30pm | Innovation City Cape Town
How do you scale a zero-waste movement and make it inclusive?
For our latest Founder Story, we welcome Regenize co-founders Chad Robertson and Nkazimlo Miti in conversation with Zakiya Khan, Impact Investment Manager at E Squared Investments, who recently led Regenize’s first venture philanthropy funding round.
Regenize is building a future where recycling is accessible to all. Through community-driven collection points and digital rewards, E-Squared is going to assist them in reaching their target of impacting over 26,000 households and creating more than 180 jobs, while simultaneously tackling South Africa's mounting waste problem.
This session will unpack how Chad and Nkazi grew Regenize from a bootstrapped idea to an award-winning startup attracting catalytic funding, while balancing mission with scale. We’ll also hear from Zakiya on why E Squared chose to back the company, and how impact-driven capital is reshaping the startup landscape.
Who should attend?
- Entrepreneurs in circular economy, sustainability, climate, and community-driven business
- Impact investors and funders
- Founders navigating the intersection of mission and market
- Anyone curious about turning good intentions into high-impact ventures

Chad Robertson is a passionate social entrepreneur and tech visionary, best known as the Co-Founder and CEO of Regenize, a Cape Town-based company revolutionizing recycling in South Africa. On a mission “to disrupt social norms and discover my superpowers to help make the world a better place", he’s driving an innovative, inclusive model that empowers informal waste collectors with uniforms, tri-cycles, phones, banking support, micro-loans—and introduces Remali, a virtual currency that rewards households for recycling. With a background in software development and currently pursuing an MPhil in Inclusive Innovation at UCT GSB focused on the informal waste sector, Chad blends technological acumen with deep social impact. Under his leadership, Regenize has earned recognition through awards like the 2019 SAB Social Innovation award and the 2021 GreenPitch Challenge, and continues to scale its mission of making recycling accessible, rewarding, and socially transformative.
Nkazimlo Miti is an innovative social entrepreneur and changemaker who co-founded Regenize, a Cape Town-based recycling startup that incentivizes sustainable behaviour through its virtual rewards currency, Remali. Since launching in 2016, the venture has earned R1.3 million in the SAB Foundation Social Innovation award and continues advancing its mission to make recycling accessible, rewarding, and socially impactful.
