We would love to inspire all parents and teachers by empowering them with knowledge and skills, but we also have A BIGGER PURPOSE .... Supporting Gerhard’s Back a Buddy campaign – Helping Him Hear, Helping Him Thrive!
We are supporting Gerhard, a bright and determined 10-year-old from Nelspruit whose school journey has been filled with challenges and triumphs. Initially diagnosed with ADD and facing early learning difficulties, Gerhard’s greatest obstacle was discovered during a routine check-up: 80% hearing loss in his right ear. Despite this, he has achieved academic success and shown remarkable resilience. After years of being misunderstood, he was finally diagnosed with dyslexia and is now thriving in Grade 4 with the right support.
Gerhard’s next step is a life-changing BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) implant, planned for late 2025. This will give him clearer access to sound—essential for learning, social interaction, and simply being a child.
This event will be held in aid of Gerhard’s Back a Buddy campaign, raising funds to help him receive the care and support he needs. Every contribution will bring Gerhard closer to hearing the world clearly and enjoying the simple joys of childhood—without barriers.
Donate today. Share his story. Be part of Gerhard’s journey to a brighter, more empowered future! LINK:

About the Presenter:
Yolanda Gani is a passionate Dyslexia Specialist and advocate for inclusive education, with a focus on supporting neurodiverse learners and promoting literacy for all. Her journey into this field became deeply personal when she struggled to find the right support for her daughter, who faced challenges with reading and phonics. Following her diagnosis, she pursued a Master’s degree specializing in Dyslexia, graduating Cum Laude, and transforming her personal journey into a professional mission.
Yolanda now serves as an Advisory Board member for African Youth Ignite 4IR, an initiative that empowers African youth with digital and innovation skills for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Her dedication to changing the narrative around learning differences and improving access to specialized support has earned her a nomination for the Woman of South Africa Annual Awards 2025 in the Education and Training category. Through her work, Yolanda continues to be a voice for the voiceless, creating hope and opportunity for learners who think and learn differently.
