Jazz at the Konserve: The Melisizwe Plaatjie Collective

Rising star Melisizwe Plaatjie leads a dynamic ensemble of emerging jazz talent in Pieces of Me, a soulful journey through his life in original compositions. As the selected pianist for the 2021 Artscape Youth Jazz Band, the 2023 National Youth Jazz Band and the award-winning Sun Quintet - winners of the awards for best jazz song and album at the 2024 Mzantsi Jazz Awards, Plaatjie is affirming his place as one of SA’s most promising jazz musicians.

The contemporary sounds of the Cape and the rich tradition of South African jazz are celebrated this year with a series of concerts in the SU Conservatorium’s outdoor amphitheatre. Members of the Maties Jazz Society will kick off each evening concert. Bring your instrument and come and take part in a jam session with artists after the concerts.

Die kontemporêre klanke van die Kaap en die ryk tradisie van Suid-Afrikaanse jazz word vanjaar gevier met ’n reeks musiekkonserte in die opwindende buitelug-amfiteater van die US Konservarorium. Lede van die Maties Jazz Society sal die konserte afskop. Bring jou instrument saam om na afloop van die konserte aan ’n jam-sessie saam met die kunstenaars deel te neem.
