ABOUT
An Ongoing Rehearsal is an artistic space conceived by improviser and scholar Nduduzo Makhathini as a means to grapple with the fugitive nature of Black aesthetic(s). Rooted in motion and sound, the work resonates deeply with the spirit of improvisation — a continual act of creation and release. It is a modality of surrender, shaped by itinerant and transcendent artistic expressions.
For this particular presentation, Makhathini invites composer, producer, trumpeter, and long-time collaborator Ndabo Zulu — a celebrated South African artist, educator, and bandleader renowned for interweaving African musical traditions with the progressive language of jazz.
The performance will be further elevated by the Soweto Central Chorus, whose powerful and melodic voices will accompany this profound exploration of sound, spirit, and Black expression.
