Antjie Krog says she has finished writing. Binnerym van bloed, also published in English as Blood’s Inner Rhyme, is her last book. In this autobiographical novel, she wants to find a way to continue conversations with her mother, Dot Serfontein, to “try to find final clarity.” The poet who became known to many of us through a beloved poem about her mother, concludes her life as a writer with a book about her mother that transcends genres and lifts the lid on taboos. Andries Bezuidenhout leads an intimate conversation about a moving book, from which Antjie also reads, in Afrikaans and English.
