Vir die veelbekroonde komponis Hendrik Hofmeyr is die toonsetting van digkuns ’n lewenslange passie: “Musiek het die magiese vermoë om die woord te deurstaal met atmosfeer, emosie en simboliek – om dít wat om en agter die teks lê aan ons tuis te bring.” Twee van Suid-Afrika se voorste musici bied ’n keur aan uit sy Afrikaanse toonsettings waarvoor hy met ’n toekenning vir vernuwende denke deur die KKNK vereer is.

For award-winning composer Hendrik Hofmeyr, the setting of poetry to music has been a life-long passion: “Music has the magical ability to illuminate words with atmosphere, emotion and symbolic meaning — to bring home to us that which lies beyond and behind the text.” Two of South Africa’s top musicians, mezzo-soprano Minette du Toit-Pearce and pianist Esthea Kruger, present a selection of his Afrikaans poems set to music, for which he received an award for creative innovation from the KKNK. Translations will be provided.
