ABOUT
Specs of Tankwa dust hang still suspended in the space of our unforgetting and - in the glowing embers of remembering - the archetypes that moved amongst us beckon to be re-encountered.
Mahala brings you the second rendition of our post AfrikaBurn celebration and fundraiser, this time in the heart of Jozi, returning to - in some way - the seed of its beginning... Lemon8 Studios in Selby.
Will the Entertainer take the spotlight? Will the Muse sing the sweet words of a sonnet into the air? Will the Wild One guide your body to dance freely and unapologetically? Or will the Trickster plan a divinely timed surprise that will dazzle and delight?
Dress
This is an invitation for you to dig deep into the unturned corners of both your wardrobe and your persona to find and bring to life an archetype seeking to find expression through and with you.
Follow this link to spin the wheel of fortune to allow fate to make the choice for you.
Be creative. Be playful, be sexy. Be unrestricted.
Please note that this event is mostly outdoors in a cozy courtyard. Please be sure to dress warmly though we will have fires and heaters going.
Offering
We open with an optional Cacao Ceremony, a chance to soften the edges and attune to the collective frequency. A perfect pairing, we believe, with the live electronic music of Akalika as we take in sunset views of Jozi in her golden sunlit glory from the rooftop of Lemon8 Studios.
We then slip subtlety into the warm arms of Mahala's sound sculptors as they present a mindfully selected set of fluid electronic rhythms, rich emotional soundscapes, and lessor explored syncopated beats, expressing Mahala’s unique audio aesthetic. Trust us, this is not the monotonous, predictable desert drone dominating Tankwa Town at the moment. Come be enchanted and join us on an emotion-evoking journey through rhythm and resonance. Be moved.
Drinks
A carefully curated selection of drinks will be on offer, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Including warming Glühwein and tea.
Bring Your Own Cup:
Please be sure to bring your own grand goblet, vessel or chalice of choice - and don’t forget to take it with you when you leave.
No cups will be provided.
