ABOUT
Follow your nose and embark on a sensory adventure with local perfumer Justin Williams and OZCF.
Renowned as one of South Africa’s foremost mushroom experts, Justin’s curiosity about the rich aromas of the forests he foraged in led him to study perfumery – and a dream of somehow capturing those woodland scents in a bottle. His quest led him to a chemical called Geosmin, the chemical responsible for the scent of rain (petrichor), and from there Justin began learning the volatile compounds of indigenous wildflowers and forest materials. For him it was a natural fit: fungi-derived base note materials such as Oud and Oakmoss (lichen) are widely used in perfumery.
Join Justin on Saturday, 21 June, for an immersive workshop where you’ll explore the art and science of modern perfumery. You’ll learn how top, middle, and base notes come together, discover the characteristics of Floral, Fresh, Woody, and Amber families – and most importantly – craft your own eau de toilette using Justin’s curated collection of materials.
Whether you’re a seasoned scent enthusiast or simply curious about perfumery, this hands-on experience will leave you inspired with your very own signature fragrance.
