CELEBRATING BOUKUNDE –MEMORY/VISIONArchitecture Farewell Function

Boukunde building has been home to the Department of Architecture since 1951. In July 2017 the building will be evacuated for renovations for the first time since the major renovations of 1973. Coincidentally the Department is turning 75 in 2018. To kickstart the preparations for its 75th birthday celebrations the Department intends to host a celebratory event and alumni open day in the newly evacuated building on 22 July 2017. The purpose of this event is to reconnect to the alumni community, collect memories and historical artefacts of the Department in preparation for the celebrations in 2018, inform the community about the proposed renovations, and raise additional funds for the renovations, specifically for the social learning spaces not covered by the renovation budget.
Access control:
All guests have to pre-register and pay an entrance fee through a web portal. This will be managed by the Pretoria Institute of Architecture on behalf of the Department. Guests will receive an electronic proof of payment, which serves as entrance ticket. A list of all guests will be provided to security services 24 hours before the event.
Except for the campus tour, all activities will take place within Boukunde Building. The Department will hire two additional security guards, as well as two bouncers to provide security at the doors.

Current students: R 40/head

During the afternoon, there will be a multi-generational music festival (various venues in building), with music provided by current students and alumni. There is also an interactive timeline exhibition, story-telling circles and rolling videos in the lecture theatres.
Refreshments
As the Department cannot cater for the expected number of guests, food stalls will be set up on the top floor (organised by 012 Central/Market@the Sheds), with an additional refreshment stall in Room 2-7 (the gallery). Stall holders will be asked to donate a portion of their profits of the day to the Department renovation fund.
