This Father's Day, give Dad a gift that's truly out of this world – an unforgettable evening exploring the night sky together! Whether he's a space enthusiast or just loves a good adventure, this relaxed, magical night will leave a lasting impression.
What We'll See
Join us for a laser-guided sky tour and a turn at our powerful telescopes as we explore:
- The mighty Jupiter, and hopefully a few of its moons
- The Moon’s incredible craters and surface detail (after 9pm)
- The warm, steady glow of Mars
- Orion’s Belt and other deep-sky surprises you never knew were out there!

Activities
- Guided telescope viewing with expert commentary

- Great photo ops with our telescopes and glowing mini-moon
Venue Info
- Food & Drinks: Available at TLC Restaurant on-site. No cooler boxes or food to be brought in
- Lighting: Soft lighting ensures visibility without interfering with the telescopes
- Facilities: Comfortable venue with toilets, seating and bar service nearby
- Access: Via Crocus Rd, then Dhalia Rd. 1.2km of unpaved road accessible by most cars.
What to Bring
- Dress warmly – even the best dads get cold!
- Binoculars or your own telescope (optional)
- A camera or phone for night sky photos
- A curious mind and sense of wonder
Weather Advice
The forecast is looking clear for June, but if clouds roll in, we’ll notify you 1 hour before the start time via email. In the case of cancellation, you can request a refund subject to processing fees of R7.50 + 4.9%. If you're planning this as a surprise, it’s a good idea to have a backup activity just in case.
About Telescope Night
Since 2020, we’ve shared the magic of the stars with families, couples, and curious minds across Johannesburg. Using our Celestron Nexstar telescopes and easy-going approach, every event is part learning, part laughter, and 100% awe.
Rules and Etiquette
- Timing with stars is very strict. Please arrive on time and allow 10mins to get settled.
- A briefing is given at the start so try not to miss it
- Hold your hands behind your back when viewing through a telescope because touching it is strictly prohibited. Assist your children if applicable
- Please try use only red lights after sundown, not flashes from phones or torches
- Avoid tripping on cords or the stand from the telescope by always being aware of your surroundings
- You may not handle the laser, it is very dangerous
- Come with no expectations - the universe decides what you will see.
