The Social Entrepreneurs:
We are delighted to showcase the 6 South African finalists who have made it to the Pitch Event. They include:

Syafunda is a learning & data management platform providing access to digital content through mobile technology. They integrate the best teaching practices on video, audio and e-books into the school system through a wireless digital library for high school students in a South African context in alignment with the South African curriculum.

The Dignity Project/Subz Pants and Pads were created to reduce the rate of absenteeism and school drop outs among young girls. Subz Pads are eco-friendly, re-usable sanitary pads which clip onto ladies underwear and do not need to be disposed of. They are simply washed and dried in the privacy of the home and re-used the next day.

I-Drop Water is a for-profit, mission-driven company established to bring safe drinking water to everyone, everywhere. Their innovative business model uses nano-purification water filtration technology and GSM-enabled platform to empower grocery store owners anywhere to purify and sell safe, affordable drinking water to their customers. With I-Drop Water more people can afford safe drinking water, less plastic waste is produced and local economies benefit by supporting their local grocery stores.

hearScreen is an innovative start-up providing smart solutions for healthy hearing. Its low-cost mHealth solution for hearing problems provides clinically valid tests, operated by untrained persons with cloud-based data management and referral systems linking patients to services. hearScreen’s vision is to impact the 1.2 billion globally who suffer hearing difficulties through affordable access and linkage to hearing health.

Mashesha Stoves is a social enterprise focusing on solving the cooking needs for rural schools and communities in SADC (Southern Africa Development Community). They sell fuel-efficient stoves that cook with large pots, for institutional use and medium sized ones for household use. Their stoves use biomass/wood fuel, but use half of the fuel normally required with open fires and are a lot safer to use, as we used a closed gasification process for combustion.

Jumping Kids is a social enterprise for South Africans living with amputation. Technology has come a long way to enable amputees. Most young South Africans living with amputation are limited more by health policies than their actual physical ability. At Jumping Kids, the dream is to provide prosthetic solutions geared for optimum results while boosting awareness and advocating for change.
Jumping Kids Is Ability!

See you there!
