What You’ll Experience This Weekend
Opening Ceremony
Before we explore practical meditation techniques for modern life, we begin by acknowledging the indigenous wisdom traditions that are the foundation of all contemplative practices.
Our opening ceremony honours this lineage by bringing together indigenous sacred practices from African and Tibetan traditions. This represents a respectful acknowledgment that the stress, anxiety, and disconnection we experience today are challenges that wise communities have been addressing for millennia.
The ceremony is led by Dr Christie van Zyl (Gogo Bazamile) leading African cleansing practices with UCT students performing sacred songs and traditional drumming, followed by Mingyur Rinpoche performing a Tibetan smoke offering. This unique fusion of African and Tibetan wisdom traditions honours the indigenous roots of meditation before we explore practical techniques for modern life.
