Looking at the business landscape in Cape Town and broadly in South Africa and Africa, there are a lot of claims of “inclusive business”. But what is our genuine understanding of inclusion in an exclusive city like Cape Town?
Who are the entrepreneurs and financial decision makers and how are they perceiving poverty? Where and how do we differentiate between philanthropy and impactful business?
It’s now important for our traditional business landscape to start understanding how businesses can truly change our inequality story, lifting the poor into new markets.
Let’s talk more about Afro-centric business. Let’s ditch the stereotypes associated with development and philanthropy. How do we foster genuine social innovation?

Danai Musandu is Investment Associate at Goodwell Investments - a firm that provides risk capital and hands-on support to fast growing businesses in emerging markets, currently mainly in financial services (microfinance) and increasingly in other impact sectors that combine social and commercial returns. She is passionate about reconstructing the African concept through innovation and social change and through entrepreneurship for the masses. She believes in local solutions to local problems.
