ABOUT

Tobacco as Sacred Medicine

Welcome to our latest Wild Nettle workshop: Coming into right relationship with tobacco.

Thursday 12 June | 6–9pm

Hollow Tree House, Hout Bay

Join us for a powerful Wild Nettle workshop dedicated to restoring right relationship with tobacco — one of the most ancient and widely misunderstood plant medicines.

Did you know that, traditionally, tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) is revered as a sacred plant spirit? Used not recreationally, but ceremonially, tobacco serves as an offering, a purifier, and a bridge—carrying prayers to the spirit world and guiding us back to connection.

When misused, this sacred plant often reflects back as addiction, disconnection, or disharmony.

In this gathering, we’ll meet tobacco in his sacred formHapé, a traditional Amazonian snuff made from tobacco and other plant medicines, carefully cultivated by dear sisters of the forest. This ceremony will be guided with care and prayer by Tanya Mukani. Tanya is a long time student of the forest and offers this medicine from a place of initiation and integrity. Tanya will deliver the Hapé ceremony as an intentional way to experience tobacco and allow it to work its true role as a tool for clearing, centering, and reconnection.

You’ll also be offered a warm, nourishing mullein chai infusion from Wild Nettle ~ a gentle plant ally known to support the lungs, ease grief, and assist in releasing the physical and emotional residues of tobacco overuse. Mullein is soft, supportive, and grounding, helping us reconnect to breath and presence.

This is a judgement-free space for learning, healing, and remembering.

Open to smokers, non-smokers, vapers, the curious, the cautious — all are welcome.
