ABOUT
Music is one of the most fantastic ways to express our emotions, and perhaps none more than choral music, where textures and harmonies abound. In this concert the Nocoré Ensemble explores one of those most fundamental, even primal, questions - why do we live? Is it just to live, is it to love, is it to find solace in prayer? In Butterfly, composed by Finnish composer Mia Markaroff, the butterfly awakens from its chrysalis to enjoy a few brief days of life, dancing in the sun, while in Billy Joel's Lullabye the years of life ahead are happy with remembrance. All in gorgeous multi-part harmony. On the other side of the spectrum is Mumford & Son's song Babel, daringly arranged in 10 part harmony to break through in love, and Franco Prinsloo's Deurgrond, where faith is the cornerstone of life. We also experience loss, and angst, but with it comes hope, which is stunningly realised in Pasek & Pauls choral masterpiece, You will be found, from the musical Dear Evan Hansen.
