The Overlandy ~ Trails, Tales & Ales

Calling all Land Rover enthusiasts! Bring your classic Landy and embark on an unforgettable journey through the mountain passes around Van Reenen. Experience a day of adventure, history, and camaraderie as we traverse scenic trails and uncover the rich stories of the region.

The Trails

Our journey begins at Van Reenen, where we'll descend the historic old railway pass, winding through picturesque farmlands before climbing back up the mountains. From there, we’ll cross the Bedford Dam wall before returning to Van Reenen. Expect an easygoing drive with a few exciting moderate 4x4 sections to keep things interesting! We will start at 9am and expect to be back at around 4pm.

The Tales

Guiding us on this adventure is renowned author and historian Leon Strachan, who will bring the landscape to life with fascinating stories and historical insights along the route. Please pack a camping chair for those story telling opportunities in the veld.

The Ales

Along the way, we'll pause to enjoy a light lunch and an ale or two. Feel free to bring extra snacks to keep you fueled for the journey.

The Evening Event

We'll wrap up the day with a traditional splitbraai at the Van Reenen Farmers Hall, accompanied by live music from the talented Bruce Marx—the perfect way to celebrate an incredible day on the trails.
