Untitled Basement
ABOUT
DUE TO INCREASED DEMAND AND REQUEST FROM OUR COMMUNITY WE'VE CHOSEN TO ADD A SECOND NIGHT.
‘Isiguqo’ refers to a mode of prayer, a site and a posture of surrender. This project emerges from a series of sonic and scholarly interventions where Nduduzo Makhathini seeks to contextualise (and further locate) his artistic practice within some understanding(s) of Ba-Ntu cosmology. The central idea in ‘Isiguqo’ is that of worship and transcendence by way of improvisation, divining the unkown. Here Makhathini uses repetitive sonic strategies that expound into fields of improvised sounds. His repertoire will include his music and some that is borrowed from what he regards as ‘worship songs’ of the black ‘churches’.
This concert will be accompanied by a stellar band that features his long time friend Ayanda Sikade and from his more recent network; Dalisu Ndlazi and Linda Sikhakhane.
