Chris Chameleon, one of South Africa's most beloved artists, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking album Ek Herhaal Jou in 2025. This iconic album, which honored Ingrid Jonker's poetry with moving compositions and touching melodies, irreversibly changed the Afrikaans music industry and became one of the country's most significant cultural moments.
The album received widespread recognition in South Africa, as well as in the Netherlands and Belgium, earning accolades from the South African Academy for Science and Arts, the Federation for Afrikaans Culture, and various national and regional awards. It was also named one of the ten most important albums of the first decade of this century by Die Beeld, Die Volksblad, and Die Burger.
In tribute to Jonker and her timeless work, Chris has decided to mark this special anniversary with the concert series Ek Herhaal Jou Weer. Through his unique storytelling, Chameleon will take audiences back to the beginning of 2005, when nearly every aspect of his life collapsed, sharing the life drama from which this album emerged—both with laughter and tears. The program will also include "the compositions that didn’t make it onto the album"—a surprise collection of previously unheard musical settings.
"I want to call Ingrid from the sea once more and relive our most beautiful moments," he says.
In April 2025, Chris Chameleon will embark on a journey to the Cape and the Garden Route to share this celebration of music and poetry with audiences. Come and be part of this magical experience!
Chris Chameleon will take you back to the heart of his music, the magic of Ingrid Jonker’s words, and some of the most unforgettable moments in South Africa’s musical history.
