SweepSouth is South Africa’s first online platform for booking, managing and
paying for home cleaning at a date that suits you, within a few minutes, from
your laptop, phone or tablet. Via app and site, we connect homeowners with
SweepStars (home cleaners) who go through a rigorous interview process
and are experienced, reference and background checked, criminal checked,
and fully insured. While we provide a fast, convenient and reliable platform for
homeowners to book cleaners, last minute and hassle-free, we also provide
dignified work and flexible work opportunities at decent rates for some of
South Africa’s domestic workers, of whom there are 1.2 million registered and
over 200,000 actively seeking work.
The company brings much needed positive change to South Africa’s
unstructured domestic cleaning market and aims to do this in other emerging
markets across the globe where there is huge opportunity and need to
formalize these industries. Our platform is revolutionizing the South African
home service industry by being the first company to provide end-to-end
booking, management, and payment of a home cleaning service.
As a female-founded company with a majority female office team, and 100%
female SweepStar team, SweepSouth is about empowering women and
changing philosophies on domestic work in the country and on the continent.
SweepSouth allows full flexibility of pricing, hours, and date/time of booking
for both SweepStars and homeowners. Our platform is not just a marketplace,
and learns about clients’ preferences using proprietary technology, resulting in
a high rate of client recurrence. SweepSouth now operates in four cities:
Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban. In a short time,
SweepSouth has become a recognized leader in on-demand technology in
the country and on the continent, and has had consistent double-digit monthon-month
growth – creating over 100,000 work opportunities for over 3,000
cleaners in just under three years.
SweepSouth was awarded first prize in the SiMODiSA Startup SA pitching
competition in October 2014, which was at the time South Africa’s biggest
tech startup conference. The prize included a trip to San Francisco and
support from the Sable Network. In July 2015, SweepSouth was also
accepted into 500 Startups Accelerator program based in Silicon Valley, and
became the first South African startup to receive investment from this very
prestigious fund (widely considered one of the top two in the world). Selection
came with funding of $125,000 and access to 500 Startups’ network of
experienced startups, mentors and partners.
In Dec 2015, SweepSouth received funding from FNB’s Vumela Fund,
managed by Edge Growth. Their co-founder Aisha Pandor graced the cover of
Forbes Africa magazine in 2016, as part of a feature on millennials creating
the future with their businesses. As founder of SweepSouth, Aisha (heavily
pregnant at the time!) was also awarded top female entrepreneur and top
black entrepreneur at the 2016 PriceCheck eCommerce Awards.
A recent major milestone for the company has been reaching 1 million hours
of cleaning in April 2017!!!
