To Life With Love

Following its successful debut season at Artscape, To Life, With Love featuring the highly-regarded Cape Talk host and trained actor, John Maytham, will run over two weeks at the Galloway Theatre at the Waterfront Theatre School from 12-22 February 2025.

John Maytham commissioned multiple award-winning playwright Mike van Graan to write him a one-person play with a blank canvas regarding themes.  Inspired by Atul Gawande’s Being Mortal and drawing on Helena Dolny’s book, Before Ever After, Mike developed To Life, With Love, a poetic piece featuring Thomas Michael Faulkner.  Thomas has experienced love, professional success, personal loss and social affirmation.  Then, in his sixties, Thomas is diagnosed with a dread disease.  There is a great chance of recovery, but Thomas is confronted by his mortality.  With many good years ahead, Thomas makes choices about how he will live.

Directed by the multi-talented Josh Lindberg, who won the Best Design awards at the Fleur du Cap (Cape Town) and Naledi (Gauteng) Theatre Awards for his work on The Promise, the stage adaptation of Damon Galgut’s Booker Prize novel, To Life, With Love is running to excellent houses at Artscape.  Two of its first three shows were sold out on the strength of word-of-mouth from the staged readings of the play during its development stage, as well as the profiles and stature of the creative team.
