With the Jacaranda Piano Trio, you will be treated to an evening of captivating musical expression, flamboyant Spanish rhythms, and majestic Russian landscapes.

The programme opens with the first Piano Trio of a passionate 17-year-old Shostakovich in love, originally titled Poème. During the time of composition, Shostakovich’s nighttime job was to improvise at the piano for still films, which explains the sudden wild contrasts. Kai Christiansen describes the composition beautifully: “As with the mature Shostakovich, sincerity mingles with irony, hope with despair, the lovely with the grotesque, the real with the surreal.”

We visit Vienna with Beethoven’s third Piano trio which has remained very popular with the public since its first performance. It takes the audience through a range of emotional outbursts and even an explosion of fireworks during the Finale.

For the final treat, Turina's second piano trio transports the audience to Spain's rhythms, spicy flavours, and colours. Turina is a flamboyant Spanish nationalistic composer greatly influenced by the charm of French masters such as Debussy and Ravel.
