Lunch with South Africa’s national theatre treasure Janice Honeyman.

Lunch with the queen of pantomime and South Africa’s most acclaimed director, Janice Honeyman. Honeyman joins the Pringle Proms’ Brian Berkman for a Compelling Conversation and lunch on Saturday, January 11 at 12 noon.

From presenting South Africa’s first children’s TV programme, “Bangalory Time” (1976) to her 37th pantomime “Beauty and The Beast” - now playing on the Joburg Theatre’s Nelson Mandela Stage - Janice has shaped South Africa’s performing landscape like few others. 

Her versatility as a director include many acclaimed productions: from Fugard to Kani, Shakespeare to the great American classics, opera, musicals and her own stage adaptations of local literature.

A founder member of The Market Theatre Company in Johannesburg and former Artistic Director of the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, Janice’s positive impact as an actor, writer, director and theatre administrator is deeply felt, acclaimed and appreciated. 

After lunch Brian Berkman will lead the conversation and, later, welcome questions from guests.

A lavish buffet lunch, inclusive of wines and other beverages, will be served at Berkman’s Pringle Bay home from 12 noon before they chat.
