CHUMA GCISA FESTIVAL

Chuma Gcisa Festival is an annual multi discipline showcase organized by a collective of young local artists, art practitioners, enthusiasts, and art investors who, in collaboration with local arts organizations, art centers, artists, local businesses, and community leaders, aim to contribute positively in the development of the local arts and entertainment industry through hosting skill sharing workshops, concerts, exhibitions, and media productions. In 2024, the Chuma Gcisa Festival, sponsored by the National Arts Council, will be on the 31st of December, 12H00 till late, at the Matatiele Arts Centre (AKA Matatiele advice Centre). 

Expect live performances by artists who have been consistent with their craft, poets, gwijo groups, dancers (traditional and modern), and exhibitions by local crafters and visual artists. There will be activities leading up to the event such as hiking, sip and paint, cyphers, short film shoots, and competitions. Nothing says a local festival than a taste of the local food. Imagine your favorite kasi meal, IT'LL BE THERE. You have kids? We've got them a face painting stall, ice cream stall, painting, and jumping castles. 

Are you an avid reader? Have you been trying to read more books written by locals? Local authors will be there signing their bestselling books ranging from anthologies, novels and autobiographies.
