ABOUT

Due to popular demand we double hiking again :)

Hi Everyone

So this is our 26th Hike as THUHC and we thought lets really mix things up a bit and try something new.

This hike takes us to the Magaliesburg again to a very special place that has been built on love and respect for nature and the human spirit.
The trail is called UMOYA and this is its story …

Umoya is a Zulu word meaning Spirit or Breath
The metal man in the front of the property is also named “Umoya”.
He stands at nearly four metres high and symbolises what the property stands for, namely “My spirit will rise”, from the Shembe hymn “Umoya Wami Uzovuka”.
Beautiful wide trails wind up a hillside to the summit where there is a 360 degree view. There are various routes to the top, so hikers can explore. Some sections are quite steep and others less so. The western trails meander through a gorge with thick tree and fern growth giving a tropical forest feel. This section is contrasted against the more open bush area to the far eastern side. Hundred year-old wild olive trees and ancient geology adorn the hillside. The property is entirely fenced for safety and security, with ample parking inside the gate. The walk along the top of the hill borders on Warthogs Game Reserve. There are regular antelope visitors from the game reserve (they jump the fences), so hikers should keep a look out for a siting. For those who like quiet, natural spots to sit and meditate or just relax for a few minutes, there are seven rest areas strategically tucked away along the trails with unique benches handcrafted from trees from the property. Afterwards, enjoy breakfast or a refreshing drink at the Black Horse Brewery and Restaurant directly across our quiet country road.
