Synopsis: …the shock emanates from the presumption that ‘ukuthwalwa’ is said to have vanished during the social changes of the world. The view of ‘ukuthwalwa’ as an illegal practice originates from the democratic principles of human rights protection and human dignity in the context of South Africa. While on the other hand, other people see it as a custom (Bhengu, 2005; Vilakazi, 1962; Kohler, 1933 and Nkosi, 2011).
