2024 CTDPS Honours Directing Final Exams

CTDPS Students Ella van der Riet-Field and Sims Chuma direct Tipex by Lauren Snyders and Whose Life Is It Anyway by Brian Clark for their final Honours Exams.

Tipex by Lauren Snyders Directed by Elle van der Riet-Field

Lauren Snyders’s Tipex follows Katie from childhood to adulthood, as she grapples with the ’consequences’ of growing up within a conservative Afrikaans and Christian community - as a lesbian. From her very first crush, experiencing ’butterflies’ to the harsh realities of being perceived as a ’duiwel se kind’ - this story is told by her and a multifaceted chorus of two using a Poor Theatre Aesthetic. Original lyrics written by Maxine Caeser outline key narratives and themes of the play through song. With the community’s cruel desire for Katie to be ’reg nou - gefix’ ; she must prove to be the decider of her own identity.

Whose Life Is It Anyway by Brian Clark Directed by Sims Chuma
