ABOUT

Easter is coming up and you have not yet decided what to do or where to go.

What better way to spend the long weekend than in the Drakensberg with many activities to choose from, whether you want to relax or spoil the kids this is the place to be. There will be two organized day hikes into the Drakensberg and the rest of the time you are free to do any activity or relax at the resort. The accommodation on offer is limited to camping so you would need to bring a tent and supply your own bedding, unfortunately all chalets and log cabins have been booked already. Self cater for one self otherwise there is a restaurant inside the resort.

You are required to pay for the accommodation upfront, the rate is R220 per person per night with children aged 3 - 16 years of age rate is R110 pppn. Other costs are optional and listed below depending on the activity you wish to partake in. Min 4 night stay.

MTB Tracks

Bring along your Mountain bikes and ride the tracks within the resort and enjoy the views from atop the ridge.

R75 full day/ R200 multi-day pass (2 – 7 Days) Kids under 16 can ride for free.

Purpose built MTB tracks, link jeep tracks on the 1000 acre estate . The spectacular Cathkin Peak, Sterkhorn and Champagne Castle is in the backdrop. 

Five loops of 4km; 7km; 1.7km; 1.2km and 1.2km  respectively, have been built, colour coded ,marked and mapped. A steep pumping climb up a jeep track will surely test your fitness level.  Down hills are mainly single tracks. Features e.g. sharp cut backs, berms, wooden bridges and wooden curbs are built on the trail to test your skills and make the ride more interesting.

You can obtain a MTB tag and map with detailed route descriptions at the adventure office. A 1-day pass will cost you R75pp and a multi-day pass R200pp. Dragon Peaks guests only pay a once-off R75 for the duration of their stay. Kids under the age of 16 ride for free.-Kids Friendly Activity.

We do not rent bikes, please bring your own!

Horse Riding

Categories offered    one category is catered for per ride

Level One - Lead rein pony ride for young children. Duration: 30mins Cost:R15-R30

Level Two - 30 minute walk around the Reception Dam for young children or anyone who has never ridden before and is not sure how they may react when on top of a horse.  Small children need to be accompanied by an adult on foot.Duration: 30mins Cost:R120

 Level Three - Caters for those who have never ridden before or who are not wanting to go faster than a walk. Young children need to be accompanied by an adult on foot. Duration: 1hour Cost:R205

 Level Four - Caters for those who only ride occasionally.  The ride is conducted at a walk and trot and the Riders are tutored on how to trot correctly.  Minimum age 11yrs.Duration: 1hour Cost:R205

Level Five - Caters for those who have a degree of competency and do not need to hold their saddle at the trot.  The ride is conducted at a walk, trot and canter and it is recommended that for those who only ride when on holiday, book for the Level 4 ride and advance to Level 5 thereafter.  Minimum age 11yrs. Duration: 1hour Cost:R205

 Level Six - This is for competent riders who are riding fit.ride. Duration: 2 hours Cost: R395

 

Fishing Dams

Four dams of varying sizes on the property located within easy walking distance from  the camping sites. These dams are populated with bass and no restrictions apply to their fishing. Guests need to supply their own equipment and general fishing stocks are available from the Oaks Supermarket. 
We have two wooden rafts that may be poled around the dam, free of charge. 
The Adventure Centre has kayaks and canoes for rent. 

Tennis Courts

There are concrete courts with a thatched boma for spectators. Rackets and balls are available for hire at Reception between 8am and 5pm. There is a R20 deposit and R10 per hour charge per racket with balls included. There is no charge for the use of the courts and they are on a first come, first serve basis.  Guests are welcome to bring their own equipment.

TV Lounge

For a quiet alternative to the Pub  a TV Lounge situated next the reception area with access to TV 1, 2, 3, E, MNet and SuperSport.

 Volleyball Court

A grass volleyball court within the swimming pool area.Balls are available at reception between 8am and 5pm at a R10 deposit.

Restaurant and Pub

 Situated within the Resort and offers  a la carte cuisine. Sunday buffet between 12:00 and 14:30. 
Everyday at 11:00 tea and scones are on the patio by the restaurant 

Play Ground

Near the reception are several swings, a jungle-gym and three trampolines.  

Games Room

For the young at heart there are two pool tables, two table tennis tables, air hockey and a soccer table.Table tennis and pool equipment can be hired at Reception or guests are welcome to supply their own. Change is available at Reception between 8am and 5pm.

 

Scoot Tour

Enjoy an exhilarating 5.4 km downhill descent on the monster mountain scooter, crossing steep terrain, meandering grasslands and an indigenous forest. A  4×4 ride takes you to the top of the hill. Scooters are non motorized making this eco friendly. These Swiss designed scooters are used in the Alps during the summer season on the ski slopes when the snow is gone.

Hiking

Monks Cowl, taking its name from the peak between the towering mountains of Champagne Castle and Cathedral Peak, is part of 260,000 ha Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park and is the access point for the Mlambonja and Mdedelo wilderness areas

Monks Cowl is known for its wonderful scenery and provides hikers with wonderful routes that weave through the deep valleys and forests of the Central Drakensberg and up onto the main escarpment.The routes at Monks cowl vary from a few hours to several days and provide opportunities for young and old, the fit and not so fit, to visit places with evocative names like the Sphinx and Blindman's Corner.

We will be taking day trips out to Monks Cowl and do a mixture of hikes from the Sphinx to Nandi Falls to Makhulmane Rock. These routes vary in distances from 4km’s to 8kms and the furthest being Blindman’s corner at 12km taking 6hrs to do.

Pools

There are 3 pools, a half Olympic pool with diving platforms and a 3m slide, a smaller pool with a 20m slide and a plunge and splash pool for smaller children. Please note there is no lifeguard, so adult supervision is required if you are bringing along your kids. Inclusive of your stay at Dragon Peaks Resort.
