ABOUT

Join graphic designer and illustrator, Buhle Qabaka, for a practical class on how to bring your imagined character designs to life!

"My creative process always begins with music, gathering motivation, and exploring other artistic works, whether it's photography, videography, or art in general. After that, I let my creative mind relax and digest all of the inspiration until the ‘Eureka’ moment comes. Because I want my artworks to be open, fluid, with character, and experimental, I don't limit myself and just let my hands express themselves. Throughout my artworks, I always strive to push the boundaries of what is 'normal,' and I use my art and vibrant colors as a means of expression. In my illustrations, I give form to 'out-of-the-box' thoughts, leaving space for the viewer to interpret their own meaning. I am inspired by local and foreign artists who are breaking down boundaries, such as Seth Pimentel, Russell Abrahams, KAWS, and the late Jean-Michel Basquiat, to name a few, as well as daily life and cultural trends."
