Sustainability Leadership Dialogue. Strategies for achieving SDGs in Africa
Tue May 2, 13:30 - Tue May 2, 19:00
The Durban ICC Exhibition Centre
ABOUT
Sustainability transition has become an important topic of discussion in Africa, as a result of the challenges the continent faces. The increasing occurrence of extreme events, such as the persistent drought and floods in Southern Africa, have ushered a sense of urgency in the region to mainstream sustainability. There is also recognisition that sustainability transition presents significant opportunities for entrepreneurs, policy makers and civil society to collaboratively address the systemic challenges of inequality, hunger and disease on the continent.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have provided us with a concrete framework for addressing these systemic challenges, in a fast changing world. It's time to mobilize and take action. Against this background, the African Centre for a Green Economy is convening a high level policy dialogue to explore innovative mechanisms to address inequality and poverty alleviation in Africa.
The dialogue is targeted at business leaders, policymakers, researchers and international development partners. The dialogue will take place on the backdrop of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa. This meeting forms part of a series of dialogues that will be convened over a period of 3 years in partnership with the Green Economy Coalition (GEC). The current dialogue is a follow up of the recent UN PAGE (Partnership Action for a Green Economy) Ministerial conference in Berlin in March 2017.
