About

SAJE celebrates INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY

Today, as we celebrate International Jazz Day along with thousands of others around the world, we will present two wonderful collaborative jazz bands made up of jazz musicians from Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Boston, USA and Fermo, Italy.

The Mageshen Naidoo Quintet (Mageshen Naidoo, Roland Moses, Mike Rossi, Dave Ridgway and Mark Augustin) will perform originals and South African jazz standards.

The International Jazz Guitar Trio will feature three amazing jazz guitarists: Alvin Dyers from Cape Town, Mageshen Naidoo from Durban and
Roberto Zechini from Fermo, Italy.

The Latin Jazz Trio will feature Brazilian jazz accordionist Guilherme Ribeiro, with Amanda Tiffin on vocals and Dave Ledbetter on guitar.

Sunday 30 April is International Jazz Day and it brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts all over the world to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots, future and impact; raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; and reinforce international cooperation and communication. International Jazz Day is the culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month, which draws public attention to jazz and its extraordinary heritage throughout April.

The SAJE Jazz Festival is a biennial event focusing on performance, workshops, jazz education, skills and audience development.

The Festival is funded by the SAMRO Foundation, Business and Arts South Africa (BASA), National Lotteries CommissionItalian Institute for Culture (IIC) and Paul Bothner Music

SAJE = South African Association for Jazz Education - established 25 years ago in 1992!
