The Craft + Design Institute (CDI), in collaboration with the Castle of Good Hope, invites Cape Town locals and visitors to cosy up to creativity by exploring the diversity of local talent and several creative workshops for all ages on 31 August at the Kuier@TheCastle market. 


The Kuier@TheCastle market has been growing as Cape Town’s CBD’s biggest new monthly event, all set within one of South Africa’s tourism landmarks.


This market is ideal for the entire family, combining the discovery of exquisite local artisanal products and creative workshops, fashion shows by Luxlane with delectable local foods and live music performances. Additionally, all visitors will enjoy access to all the Castle’s 9 exhibitions and installations throughout the day.

The 31 August event will feature several fun creative workshops, including:

CROCHET WORKSHOP

The Craft of Crochet by Ivy Grace – a wonderful opportunity to discover an on-trend design skill and learn to make your own stunning crochet bracelet. Crochet is the fashion trend of the moment. Its a magnet for compliments whenever you wear it! Make it for yourself or as a gift for Women's Month: R120 (including materials). Workshop times: 10am – 12pm or 1pm – 3pm.


 

MICRO-MOSAIC JEWELLERY WORKSHOP

Micro-Mosaic Jewellery with Marcelino Manhula – Create your own micro-mosaic necklace! Fusing an ancient technique and contemporary art; go home with your own special, unique jewellery piece. Cost: R185 per session (including materials). Workshop times: Hourly from 10am – 4pm. No skills required.


 

 

TUFTING WORKSHOP

The Craft of Tufting by Spinnerkop – Make your own small rug or placemat with your initials. Explore the art of personalisation – tufting is such a huge trend at the moment! Cost: R600 (including materials). Workshop times: 10am – 1pm; or 1pm – 4pm. Workshop and Materials included. No skills required.

DIMZIQUE TATTING & BEADWORK WORKSHOP

The Art of Tatting and Beadwork Workshop by Dimzique – Create your own gorgeous drop earrings with a variety of bead and thread colours. Cost: R250 per session (including materials). No skills required. Workshop times: 11am – 1pm, or 2pm – 4pm.

JOHN BAUER CERAMIC TALK & TOUR OF THE IZIKO CERAMIC MUSEUM

Creative Ceramic Artist Talk & Tour by famous ceramist John Bauer who has many ceramic pieces at the Iziko Ceramic Museum. John will give a talk about the museum and there will be an interesting discussion with other ceramist’s from Cape Town. Cost R175. Time 2pm - 3.30pm

TOTE BAG PAINTING WORKSHOP

Tote Bag Painting Workshop by Minimalist Makers: A perfect gift for yourself or a friend. Cost R400 materials included. We all love tote bags, come and design your own!
