ABOUT
Ka'Makaté is a new musical project created by transdisciplinary artist, musician and filmmaker Kamil Adam Hassim, who is known for his innovative work at the intersections of Art and Science. Kamil is one of the youngest artists to be awarded a residency at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the first and only artist to have conducted a residency at every Major Astronomical Observatory in South Africa where he collaborated with scientists and engineers at the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT).
This project involves musical concepts and experiments which began as compositions at CERN and the array of telescopes in the Karoo Desert. This sonic tapestry weaves a connection between the influences of particle physics, astronomy, cosmic sciences and indigenous, spiritual knowledge systems. The performance also debuts a special unique musical instrument designed and created by the artist.
The Quintet includes a mix of instruments: Electric Guitar, Piano, Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Bass, Indian percussion instruments like the Tabla and Ghatam as well as a unique musical instrument handmade by the artist.
The evening will also be treated by a unique blend of masala chai, complimentary to every guest as an invitation to the ritual.
Please note that chair seating is limited, eastern-style floor seating will be arranged with cushions on rugs. Please bring your own cushions or preferred seating if desired.
The stellar Quintet forming Ka'Makaté consists of:
Kamil Adam Hassim: Guitar, Sutra
Lilavan Gangen: Tabla, Ghatam, percussion
Danel Murcott: Flute, Tenor Saxophone,
Adam Powell: Piano
