‘Nozincwadi, Mother of Books’ by Gcina Mhlope Book Reading and Sign Language Video Screening.

About the book: Mrs. Zwane collected books. She loved books and knew there was magic in them. The people called her Nozincwadi--Mother of Books. But she couldn't read. Then one day a young schoolboy, called Muzi, gave her some information that would change her life.

MA'AM GCINA MHLOPHE is an author, storyteller and founding director of Gcinamasiko Arts & Heritage Trust. In November 2022, Dr Mhlophe was honoured by the Charlotte Manya-Maxeke Institute as one of the Mothers of the Nation, alongside great Pioneers like Mrs Nokukhanya Mdima-Dube, Ms Nicky Newton King and Mrs Zanele Mbeki.

LOGAN & FRIENDS was founded by Dr Jocelyn Logan-Friend because she saw a gap in opportunities for young people to engage in educational opportunities that nurture their creativity and prepare them to innovate in their own communities. She deeply believes that if we center the voices of young people through equity, provide them with space to demonstrate self-expression through creativity, and provide them with the tools to solve problems, they will become the innovators of the future.

Dr. Logan-Friend has over 15 years of experience in education as a teacher, school leader, principal coach and program specialist at the US Department of Education. As the current CEO of Logan & Friends she focuses her efforts on projects that contribute to broader transformation and advancement of education, redefining the parameters of success.
