MONIQUE CASSELLS at OU MEULTEATER, PAARL –

James Marais and Monique Cassells have become well-known for their “oldies” music tribute shows
since they began performing together in 2009, and they are bringing their duo show, “A Trip Down
Memory Lane”, to the Ou Meulteater! The show features songs by the legends you know and love from
the 1950s, ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, such as Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Cliff Richard, the Everly Brothers, the
Platters, Cher and Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Roy Orbison,
ABBA and Queen. The show is a mini-theatrical experience, featuring the dynamic vocal and visual
performances of James and Monique, alternating as a duo and individual performers, who also do
multiple costume changes throughout.
James Marais is the no. 1 Elvis Presley tribute artist in the country, and has appeared on television
several times, including appearances on SABC 2’s game shows, “Noot Vir Noot” and “Musiek Roulette”,
as well as Kyknet’s “Jou Show”, presented by Emo Adams. After winning the title of South Africa’s no.
1 Elvis Tribute Artist at the Elvis Festival Africa held in Storms River Village, Tsitsikamma (Eastern
Cape) in April 2010, James participated in the Elvis World Cup, held in Cardiff, Wales in 2010, finishing
fourth out of the 11 countries participating. James performs a show-stopping Elvis tribute in this show,
and also pays tribute to many other legends such as Cliff Richard, Neil Diamond, Tom Jones and Roy
Orbison.
Monique Cassells has developed a reputation of being a powerhouse, versatile and engaging performer,
and is a very accomplished vocalist, having performed many different genres of music over the years,
including rock ‘n roll, rock, pop, country, blues, ballads and even light classical. She made her
television debut on SABC 2’s “Musiek Roulette” in May 2018. Monique has dazzled many an audience
with her renditions of timeless songs such as The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody”, and she
pays sensational, full-costumed tributes to both Marilyn Monroe and Cher in this show.
James and Monique will also perform some exciting duets of legendary songs in their unique style. “A
Trip Down Memory Lane” provides the kind of fun, colourful and entertaining show that audiences have
come to expect from James and Monique. The show will leave you with a smile on your face and a
song in your heart by the end!
James and Monique have performed together at many different venues and for diverse functions over
the years, such as the Roxy Revue Bar, GrandWest Casino in Goodwood, Die Boer Dinner Theatre in
Durbanville, ReedValley (formerly known as The Barn) in Mossel Bay, The Barnyard in Plettenberg Bay
(sadly now closed), The Showroom Theatre in Prince Albert (Karoo), Heroes Restaurant Theatre in
Brackenfell, The Drama Factory in Strand, Café Roux in Noordhoek, Jamrock Theatre in Brackenfell,
Die Bôrdienghuis Theatre in Wellington, Die Koelkamers Theatre in Paternoster, Hoedjiesbaai Hotel in
Saldanha Bay, Caledon Casino, Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay, Golden Valley Casino in Worcester,
Mykonos Casino in Langebaan, Evita Se Perron in Darling, Villa Pascal Theatre in Durbanville,
Bushman’s Cave Theatre in Clanwilliam, Bellville Civic Theatre in Bellville, Kraaifontein Civic Hall in
Kraaifontein and Upington High School Hall in Upington. They have also performed at various golf
clubs, bowling clubs, yacht clubs, retirement villages, restaurants, wine estates, festivals, corporate
functions and more.
Doors open at 14h30 and the show starts at 16h00
