ABOUT

Dialogue on Fatherhood

An important dialogue on where fathers find themselves in the home, in community and in the legal system...This is such a complex topic and not much is understood about it. Many homes are fatherless, many fathers yearn to be a father to their children, many mothers are angry with fathers and it is a vicious cycle, resulting in many wounded souls. Let us have the difficult conversation as to what led to this pandemic of absent fathers, how we can encourage fathers to be more involved and present to their children.

This is an interactive dialogue with amazing speakers covering a wide range of topics relating to fatherhood. Wherever you find yourself in this journey of parenting, do register to be part of it. Invite your father, your children's father (sharing is caring), your brother, your uncle and cousins. Ladies come too and learn how we can support men to be the fathers we need in the community. This is very much relevant for professionals working in family law - all mediators, attorneys, advocates, social workers, family therapists and psychologists.

We have an amazing lineup of speakers:

Dialogue Host: Natalie Ruiters

Dereck Beukes, Marriage Therapist Therapy and Pulpit Minister - Dialogue across Generations.

Dereck will be setting the tone of the day, sharing on dialogue across generations. Dereck is an excellent communicator on dialogue! Certainly one of our favourites! He specializes in Imago couples therapy and facilitates marriage workshops covering premarital counselling and marriage enrichment. His competency as an Imago Couples Therapist uniquely equips him to untangle the complexities of relational stress.

Chris Nissen, Commissioner responsible for civil and political rights at the SAHRC: Was ordained as a Minister and served in congregations. He worked for the Western Province Council of Churches, leading the Standing for the Truth Campaign. He supported communities in various human rights issues such as housing and access to land.

Laurie Greyvenstein, Mediator and Trainer, Social Justice - If the law is seen as an ass, whose fault is that?

Laurie has extensive experience in all spheres of the law as a prosecutor, magistrate and for the last 18 years in Alternative Dispute Resolution as Mediator, Parenting Coordinator & Restorative Justice practitioner. Laurie has an incredible way of bringing all his knowledge and experience in a talk and inspires one to reach your fullest potential.

Bernard Altman, Clinical Psychologist and Mediator - The Psychology of masculinity - the Psychology of fatherhood.

Bernard will be unpacking the psychology of masculinity and the fatherhood. Bernard has decades of experience and knowledge, which he shares so generously in his talks while challenging the audience to think differently. He has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, medico-legal assessments, child and adolescent psychotherapy and group therapy. Bernard will be sharing around.

Rual Cassiem - A Father’s story

Rual will be sharing his journey with mediation and how it assisted both parties to let go of their ideas of what is right and focus on the best interest of their daughter. A beautiful story of transformation.

Cassie Carstens is the founder of The World Needs a Father, a global movement active in over 100 countries focused on tackling the scourge of fatherlessness. Cassie is another of our firm favourites. He will share around fatherless societies and it's impact. Cassie is charismatic and a deep thinker, who challenges his audience to think deeply and transform.

A little background on The Babute Movement:

The Babute Movement embodies it's name Babute meaning bring them together; we are a group of individuals and professionals wanting to make a change for families and communities. We recognise the many challenges our court system and supporting organizations face; we recognise the battle many parents are fighting to get access to justice; we recognise that the social ills we are experiencing in our societies are at an all time high and we want to be part of the solutions to carve a better future for generations to come. We recognise that we can not do it alone, we invite you to be part of the conversations. This is a space to grow in knowledge and capacity, as we have experts sharing their knowledge. The atmosphere is contagious in mobilising people to act and return to their spaces of influence and work to make a difference. Our philosophy lies in a moment to moment experience - for ourselves and those we serve.

With the generosity of our Ambassadors, Guest Speakers, Quicket, Social Justice Foundation, JDI, Tek Solutions Online and Vredelust Gemeente; we are able to host these gatherings bringing closer those who need this space the most. We thank you, we are humbled to be joining hands with you in this movement.

**REMINDER FOR THOSE ATTENDING IN PERSON: to please bring your ID or driver's license for proof of identification, as well as your Quicket ticket to be scanned in at the door. Thank you!
