Dust Off

ABOUT

It’s one week post AfrikaBurn, a time of decompression and self-reflection. We think back to a world in wonderland where the rules of life seem completely different, questioning what is reality, what is fantasy and what creates a fantastic reality.

For most of us “real life” begins again on Monday. If you are looking forward to inventing your world a new and “dusting off” unhealthy habits, preconceived notions, stress and anxiety, material attachments, social inhibitions, grievances or emotional baggage, creative blocks, self-doubt and insecurities, routine and monotony, the need for control or anything else that might have come up as you simultaneously survived and thrived in the desert, join us for the Dust Off.

For an exchange of R200 you will receive a set of headphones so that we may guide you through a series of events designed to help you connect mind, body and soul and enter into the new week, and your new life, with clear intentions and free from inhibitions.

We are starting the music from 3pm and invite you to join us in doing an optional "moop sweep" of the beach to carry the AfrikaBurn ethos into the default world. We will provide bags and gloves.

Important to note:

We ask that you arrive by latest 4pm to write down your intentions and settle in. The meditation experience is the same and happens at the same time for those who have opted in or out for the cold plunge and cacao so please do not get confused and arrive late as you will miss a part of the meditation process. The musical journey begins as soon as you arrive and receive your headphones. You can participate in the breathwork from the plunge pool or from dry land. Headphones are to be worn in the water at your own risk. If submerged or damaged, the wearer is responsible to replace them at a fee of R1200. The cold plunge is subject to cancellation if the tidal pool is too rough, but the breathwork will happen regardless.

If you would like to deepen the experience you can purchase a cup of ceremonial cacao for R100. Cacao refers to the raw form of chocolate, derived from the seeds of the Theobroma cacao tree and is consumed in the form of a chocolate drink. Its intention is to intensify the meditation experience and is an optional extra. Those not opting for this will continue to listen to the music and event facilitation while the cacao is distributed.

Order of events:

15H00 Beach Moop Sweep (optional)

16H00 Arrive & write intentions (acknowledge to yourself what is not serving you)

16H20 Cold plunge (optional) and breathwork

16H50 Ceremonial cacao (optional)

17H00 Guided “Dust Off” meditation

17H30 Ecstatic dance

18H00 Burn what you are “dusting off” at sunset

18H30 Ceremony ends

We ask that you take some time to do some reflection pre-event so that you know what you would like to “dust off”. We have prepared some reflection questions which will be emailed to you once you have booked your ticket to help facilitate this. You can write key words, or sentences describing what you would like to let go of at the beginning of the ceremony. The guided “Dust Off” Meditation will help you to release anything that is not serving your highest good.

Please be aware that this event is experienced privately and independently. Everything you write down is for your eyes only. Anyone else on the beach cannot hear the music nor what is being said through the microphone as it is played to you directly through the headphones. This means that you cannot talk during the event. We ask that you take the time for personal reflection and sit away from your friends. Remember to bring some tissues with as this might trigger an emotional release.

Please dress warmly. Although we are meeting at the beach, temperatures do drop around sunset and cold winds can blow in from the ocean. If you are participating in the cold water plunge please come dressed in a swimming costume and bring a dry pair of clothes to change into afterwards. We will allow for a 10 minute changing time between the plunge and the cacao ceremony.

Street parking is available on Beach Road.
