ABOUT IKONIKA

Ikonika has taken enormous strides since her classic 2008 single 'Please' (Hyperdub Records). Following the release of her 2010 debut album 'Contact, Love, Want, Have' (Hyperdub), Ikonika toured everywhere from Europe to Asia to Australia to North and South America. Her Pitchfork approved 2012 EP 'I Make Lists' (Hum + Buzz - a label she ran with Optimum [Night Slugs/Planet Mu (OFFICIAL)], releasing singles from the owners, focused on introducing bright new talent), explored a more club-focused direction whilst retaining her melodic sensibility. She also produced Azealia Banks’ mixtape track 'Neptune'.

In 2013, Ikonika unveiled her second album for Hyperdub, 'Aerotropolis'. Loosely based on her tour experiences and childhood growing up near London Heathrow airport, the album showcased her first collaboration with a vocalist (Jessy Lanza on 'Beach Mode') and introduced a new Latin Freestyle, Electro, R'n'B and Boogie influenced style. It was widely praised including 4/5 in Resident Advisor, 8/10 in NME and 2nd best album of the year in DJ Mag. She rounded the year off with nominations for Best Producer and Best Album at DJ Mag's Best of British awards, and a remix of 'Lies' by Chvrches that was voted 2nd best remix of the year in Dummy.

2014 saw the release of the 'Position EP' (Hyperdub), a collection of tough, pummelling club trax influenced by her Night Slugs affiliation, contributions to Hyperdub's 10th anniversary compilations and a packed touring schedule. She also completed mixes for FACT, Serato, SSENSE, Red Bull, Rinse FM and Triple J.

2016 saw Ikonika continue to crest the foremost waves of bass music, with notable remixes for Natasha Kmento and Junior Boys, as well as a contribution to NightSlugs All Stars Volume 3.

In 2017 we are already anticipating an IKONIKA’s remix on the deluxe edition of DAWN RICHARD’s Fade to Mind released ‘Infrared’.

Her technical proficiency has taken her to bookings at clubs and festivals all across the world. Her live and studio sets journey from classic House and Techno, to RnB bangers, to the freshest sounds of the underground. Her talent was recognised by DJ Mag with nominations for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ of 2009 and ‘Best DJ’ of 2010, in their ‘Best Of British’ awards.

Ikonika will be in South Africa for a teaching residence hosted by Pussy Party. For more info: playpssyparty@gmail.com
