ABOUT
German bassist Martin Zenker frequently travels between Mongolia, Munich, Rio de Janeiro, and Stellenbosch. In this concert, he features musicians from Germany and South Africa who are part of a new exchange program between the SU Department of Music and the University of Music and Theatre Munich (HMT). Experience high-octane jazz, rooted in two diverse cultures, seen through a very personal lens.
Martin Zenker juggles his life between Munich, Germany and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia as a lecturer and performing artist, frequently travelling other parts of the world as well. He is currently working for the Mongolian State Conservatory in Ulaanbaatar and the Munich Academy for Music and Theater (HMTM) in Germany. Martin has established a connection with the SU Konservatorium and South African musicians since his first visit in 2002. He has been a vital part in establishing the new ERASMUS exchange program between the SU and HMT Munich.
Nathaniel Gates is the first SU student to participate in the ERASMUS exchange program and has just returned after attending a guest semester in Jazz Trombone at the HMTM.
Andreas Kissenbeck is Professor in Piano and head of the master’s degree programme for Jazz Education at HMT Munich, currently visiting Stellenbosch on behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service.
Pascal Haas graduated from HMT Munich as a drummer and jazz educator and recently moved to Stellenbosch to pursue a PhD and to teach at the SU Music Konservatory.
