It is widely known that non-profit organisations in South Africa are faced with challenges relating to financial resilience, ultimately having negative effects on the impact and sustainability of the organisation. Research from Trialogue’s Business in Society Handbook demonstrates that in 2023, a third (36%) of non-profit organisations did not have any cash reserves, 6% higher than 2022 data suggested. In a tough global economic environment and funding channels diminishing, it is imperative that NPOs are intentional about accumulating and managing reserves for sustainable futures.
