ABOUT

The School of Music at North-West University, Potchefstroom, proudly presents "Festive Spirit", a chamber music concert consisting of three trios. Experience an afternoon brimming with musical delight as we celebrate the joyous essence of chamber music with Beethoven, Glinka, and Poulenc.

Kicking off our festivities is Beethoven's "Gassenhauer" Trio in B-flat major, Op. 11, reimagined for violin, bassoon, and piano. This lively piece whisks us through the bustling streets of Vienna with its infectious melodies and energetic exchanges.

Next, we delve into the Russian Romanticism of Glinka's Trio Pathétique in D minor, a stirring work for violin, bassoon and piano that delves deep into the heart's tumultuous journey. Through its passionate melodies and dramatic twists, Glinka's trio captivates with its emotional intensity.

Rounding off our soirée is Poulenc's delightful "L'Invitation au Château," for violin, clarinet and piano, a whimsical exploration of French salon charm. With its playful melodies and whimsical rhythms, Poulenc invites us into a world of elegance and eccentricity, leaving us with a lingering sense of joy and wonder.

The concert will feature exceptional performances by Piet Koornhof on the violin, Liesl van der Merwe on the bassoon, Tinus Botha and Jana Mathee on the piano, and Brian Nelson on the clarinet. Their collective expertise and passion for music promise to create an unforgettable afternoon for the audience. Join us as we celebrate the festive spirit of chamber music.
