Teach to Learn with Alex Kruger - A Course in Facilitation

For thousands of years, people have known that the best way to understand a concept is to explain it to someone else. “While we teach, we learn,” said the Roman philosopher Seneca.

We at Guerilla House have tasted the profound truth of this ancient wisdom. Young, inexperienced, and with little money, we decided to launch Guerilla House to learn about and get hands on experience with topics we're interested in, using a workshop approach to stack the learning amongst multiple minds, share costs, and spread any potential risk. Not only have we learnt more than we ever could have on our own, we've also found solutions to real world problems, created some pretty cool stuff, and connected with incredible humans in the process.

Join us as we explore how to tap into the workshop model to achieve the above, covering topics such as:

• Effective facilitation techniques
• Understanding how humans learn
• Participatory learning
• Developing course content, and
• Creating an immersive learning environment

We are extremely excited to have permaculture veteran Alex Kruger facilitate this workshop, a permaculture designer, practitioner, and facilitator with over 20 years experience in the field. She is an active resident at Berg-en-Dal, home of the Klein Karoo Sustainable Drylands Project, which aims to create a model regenerative settlement used as a training environment for a wide range of permaculture and ecological land-stewardship practices. She is also our teacher, and a major reason behind our inception of Guerilla House, having ingited our passion for permaculture after teaching us in 2014. Alex has impacted our lives tremendously, and we believe she may just impact yours too.

Cost per participant is R600.

This workshop will only go ahead if there are 10 confirmed paying participants, so please share with those you feel may benefit. This is to ensure we cover our costs, keep the workshop fee low and make this education accessible. In the event we do not reach the 10 humans target, your ticket will be fully refunded. Tickets are non-refundable otherwise.

What to bring:

• Snacks and a lunch to share if you can. In the spirit of compassionate sharing, please ensure what you bring to share is kosher / halaal / vegetarian
• Your own crockery (plates and mugs) and cutlery
• Water bottle
• Sun hat and sun glasses
• Notepad and pen if you want to take notes
• Comfortable and appropriate clothes - this is an outdoor event
• Camping chairs / blankets / yoga mats / pillows to sit on
• Musical instruments and your own XYZ/ABC - you're welcome to stay for a jam session around a fire after the workshop is complete (Sunday)
• An open mind and your inner genius
