World Interfaith Harmony Week
World Interfaith Harmony Week was initiated by the United Nations in February 2011 as annual, week-long observance of inter-religious harmony. It was originally proposed to the United Nations in September 2010 by his Majesty King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and unanimously accepted by the UN General Assembly a month later.
The heart of the three Abrahamic religions – Christianity, Islam and Judaism – is love. Love of God and Love of Neighbour are cornerstone tenets of these three religions, and became the driving force to create interfaith harmony through the World Interfaith Harmony Week activities. People of all faiths and none, from all over the world, unite at this time to recognize their common values that transcend differences. All people want to live in peace and it takes all of us to contribute our goodwill and demonstrate the lived reality of peace that we are called to through the Golden Rule, our sacred texts and our wisdom teachings.
