ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Carl Sutton

Meet Carl Grant Mark Sutton, a man with an incredible story of resilience and perseverance. Born and raised in Alexandra Township, he had to leave during the 1976 June 16th uprisings. Despite facing many challenges, including becoming a taxi driver, Carl didn’t give up. He later joined the Gauteng Provincial Government, starting as a security guard before becoming a Chief Property Inspector. Despite being unfairlydismissed after 16 years, Carl forgave those who had wronged him and moved on.

Carl is married to one wife and has four children, including the daughter who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1998. He found strength in the love and support of his community and continues to honour her memory.

In honour of his daughter, Carl founded CCJ Cleaning and Security Service in 2004, which now employs over 250 people. The secret to his success? Respect for all, honouring his parents, not judging others, loving unconditionally, and forgiving. His mother’s words, “Don’t ever let people change you for the type of person you are,” still guide him to this day.

As he approaches the 20th anniversary of his business, Carl knows that his late daughter would be proud of him. He hopes that his story will inspire others to live with love and forgiveness, for as he says, “A lot of - or many - people will miss heaven one day because of unforgiveness.”
