Old Nectar Concerts welcomes the cellist Benedict Kloeckner and pianist François du Toit for a programme entitled ‘Fratres’ (details below) at Old Nectar gardens historic wine cellar in Jonkershoek.
Although still in his early 30s, Benedict Kloeckner is regarded as one of the outstanding artists of his generation, performing worldwide as soloist with renowned orchestras such as London’s Royal Philharmonic, the Deutsche Philharmonie and the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg. His musicianship is endorsed by famous names such as Daniel Barenboim and Sir Simon Rattle and he regularly partners musicians of the calibre of Anne Sophie Mutter, Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet and Sir Andras Schiff. His recordings have won international praise, and he was recently nominated for the German Critics’ Award. His large discography contains recordings of the Bach Cello Suites and also collaborations with illustrious partners such as Heinrich Schiff and Michael Sanderling. Some of his latest recordings have won the Picciato Supersonic Award.
Pianist François du Toit is rightly regarded as one of South Africa’s most eminent pianists and musicians. He is frequently heard in solo recital, as concerto soloist and with chamber music ensembles. François du Toit is an Associate Professor of Piano, Deputy Director of the South African College of Music and Head of Practical Studies at the University of Cape Town. He received tuition in South Africa with Merryl Preston and Laura Searle and with Arie Vardi and Bernd Goetzke in Germany. During his period of study, he distinguished himself in several international competitions, taking top prizes in Hannover, Rotterdam and Athens.
Join us for this concert on Sunday 18 February 2024 at 4pm. Tickets are R200 per person and include selected wines from Banhoek’s renowned Oldenburg Wine Estate and finger food at interval. Student / learner tickets are offered at R50 per concert at the door. Guests are invited to come early or stay after the concert to enjoy the tranquility of the Old Nectar gardens.
