Melvin Peters Concert

Melvin Peters is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger, educator and church organist. He started classical piano lessons at the age of six and continued throughout high school. During this period, his piano tutors included Prof Hubert van der Spuy and Isabella Stengel. Whilst studying towards a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Natal, he began jazz piano lessons under the tutelage of Darius Brubeck in 1983.

Melvin Peters has performed internationally most notably in Europe and the United Kingdom. In 2013, he performed in Spain, and in 2018, he collaborated with a few English musicians in Liverpool. In the past ten years, he has been invited to perform in Germany a few times. These performances have taken place under the auspices of the Durban-Bremen Partnership. His last visit to Bremen was in June this year, where he also conducted workshops on South African jazz in various schools. The Melvin Peters Quartet has received an invitation to perform at the Jazz Ahead Festival in Bremen in April 2024.
