PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Due to stolen rails, this trip presently includes a short (8 km) vintage bus transfer from Rayton station to Culllinan and return.
Take a vintage steam train trip from Hermanstad, Pretoria to Cullinan and back.
Departing at 08:00 and with a return departure at 15:15 (to be home by about 18:00), you will enjoy several hours in the pictuesque old mining village of Cullinan. Strole around, enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the cafes and restaurants or bring your picnic to the park. Braai fires also available.
You will board one of our 60-year-old railway coaches at our private Hermanstad Station a few kilometers north-west of the Pretoria city centre and settle into your seat, knowing that your car is safe on our gated premises and being looked after by our staff. One of our vintage steam locomotives will have chuffed-up and coupled onto the train. The guard has waved his flag, the loco whistle has blown and we're off!
After your own choice of lunch venue in one of Cullinan's cute trendy cafes, restaurants, pubs, even Harry's or Wimpy. You can also picnic and braai. You reboard the bus at 15:00 for the transfer back to the train at Rayton. The train arrives back at Hermanstad around 18:15. Your kids will have enjoyed a full, busy day and have fallen asleep to the sounds and the rocking of the train, leaving you to relax and contemplate a really notalgic day out.

Ticket prices to Cullinan and return:
Adults: R275
Pensioners over 65 and disabled people: R225
Teens 13 to 18: R200
Children 7 to 12: R175
Children 2 to 6: R125
Infants under 2: free
If you book and pay for 15 or more seats (excluding infants) at one time you get a 10% discount (via Quicket online and direct bookings with FOTR - regret discount NOT available at Computicket).
This trip is approximately 2,5 to 3 hours in duration in each direction. Please note that we always make every effort to route our trips as advertised. However all routings and destinations are dependent upon the availability of the railway network's lines that we run over. In the event of network line closures or maintenance we may have to change the routing or run a supplementary bus service without necessarily giving advance notice.
